The middle. Well, not quite. The Ciudad Mitad del Mundo (Middle of the World City) is a park located about 26 kilometers north of Quito. The site marks the location where, in 1736, French scientists discovered the approximate location of the equator. Unfortunately for them, they were about 240 meters off. Since then, modern GPS systems have accurately located the ‘middle’ of our Earth. The monument has been moved once. Will the do it again?
