Potluck in the Park.

Mother’s Day weekend turned into a spontaneous trip out west, taking our family to Portland, Oregon. While the trip was indeed short, it still provided an opportunity to see a wonderful gesture of a community’s generosity. O’Bryant Square, in the heart of Portland was the staging area for Potluck in the Park, a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization run by volunteers and operating with a single salaried employee. What’s most impressive is their staying power: They have served meals every Sunday of every month of every year since 1991. Every Sunday, between 400 and 600 people are served a meal. For many of those who are served, it is likely the only meal they have that day.
